@epicfantasy Excellent, I’m racking a slowly but steadily-fermenting spiced mead in about a week so I’ll make a note and maybe include ph levels as another variable in the ol’ brewing log. Thanks!
@Ross3k been doing some ph research lately. 3.7 to 4.6 is optimal range. If you drop below 3.4 you probably should add acid blend. Lower than this and the mead could stall or worse -encourage unwanted bacteria. within the optimal range you can tinker to taste.
So as long as the mead ph is above 3.4 there’s nothing else to worry about ph-wise? Is there an optimum ph level?
If the mead is at 3.4 or above then you really don’t have to do anything. It is fine! If it is below this you should add acid to the mead according to the manufacturers specifications. Something like an acid blend would be good. If you have fruit in your mead chances are very good the acid is great and you don’t have to worry about even checking it. Just the plain meads could use checking.
So what do you do after you check the ph of the mead. And yes I am a newby.
The paper has a ph range between 2.8 and 4.4 and is accurate equal to plus or minus .1 to .2 ph. I generally do a couple so I can get a really good look at the color change. Precision labs make the paper I use. it’s inexpensive and easy. thanks for watching! You must be a fellow mead lover:)
what is the sensitivity of the paper?
